Ali Van Gruen received her fine arts diploma from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Ontario. Part of her studies included a year abroad at the college’s satellite campus in Florence, Italy. It was in Italy that she was able to explore and get comfortable with her expressionistic style in both oil and acrylic paints. Since then, both colour and texture figure quite prominently in her landscape paintings.
After graduating from OCA, she moved out west to marry her soul mate where she took a break from her painting career to settle into her new home and raise a family, and has now lived in Whistler for 20 years with her husband and two children.
The creative side of Ali’s life took a side step for a while, but now, curious to try new mediums, her artistic spark has been lit again. As of lately, Ali has been shaping wire into art.
